QPR 1 Huddersfield Town 1: Hard work paying off for Nahki Wells, says boss David Wagner

Rangers, in their fifth match since Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink took over as manager, struggled without injured top scorer Charlie Austin.

They played without a recognised striker until the second-half introduction of Sebastian Polter, who opened the scoring with 10 minutes remaining.

Wells equalised with a stunning free-kick five minutes later to rescue a deserved point for Huddersfield, who were the better side in the first half.

It was Wells’s eighth goal of the season and his third in two matches.

“He scored a very good goal and did a very good job today,” Wagner said. “He had a very good chance with a header in the first half as well.

“At the moment he is very confident and that is very important for a striker.

“But more important for me is that he likes to work. He is our first defender and he showed that again today.”

Wagner added: “I think a point was the least we deserved for this performance.

“The first half was very good from my team and after that we could have expected more than a point.

“But it was a good reaction (to going behind) and in the end a point was fair.

“It may only be one point today, but I am pleased we have shown people what we can do on the pitch.

“Everybody in the squad knows how important they are. I expect everyone to give 100 per cent when on the pitch and at the moment they are.

“I have been here for seven weeks now and the players have responded very well.”

The draw means Hasselbaink is still waiting for his first win in charge at Rangers.

“We’re very disappointed. I think the boys just need a win,” said Hasselbaink.
