The FC Kaiserslautern defender – linked with the club for the past few weeks – will officially join Town on July 1, having signed a three-year deal.

Loewe also had a spell at Wagner’s former club Borussia Dortmund, where he played 11 games under current Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp from 2011-13 and Wagner feels that Town have landed the 26-year-old at the height of his footballing powers.

Wagner, whose side face their fourth successive game against Yorkshire opponents on Saturday when they host Hull City, said: “Everyone knows him as a player in Germany, as he is often voted as the best left-back in the 2 Bundesliga.

“A lot of heavyweight clubs in Germany, England and elsewhere were interested in such a quality player who is on the market.

“Given this was the case, the fact we have been able to bring a player of Chris’s quality to Huddersfield shows we are going in the right direction.

“Chris possesses good speed and is a good attacker from the left-back position, whilst he also likes to defend. He is also a good age; a player in his prime.”

Barnsley are in the running for the League One manager of the month accolade for the fourth successive month – with Paul Heckingbottom having been handed his second successive nomination.

The caretaker head coach, whose side amassed 10 points from 15 last month, is among four nominees for the March accolade, along with former Reds chief Keith Hill – now boss at Rochdale – Colchester United’s Kevin Keen and Walsall’s Jon Whitney.

Meanwhile, Bradford City have received their second successive monthly nomination for the League One player of the month award after defender Nathan Clarke was shortlisted – following on from James Hanson’s nomination for February.

Clarke is competing with Burton Albion’s Mark Duffy, Wigan Athletic striker Will Grigg and Shrewsbury Town winger Sullay Kaikai.

Rotherham United manager Neil Warnock is the strong favourite to land the Championship managerial gong for March.
