Reading 1 Huddersfield 1: Town chief Robins has concerns for Gerrard

HUDDERSFIELD TOWN will make further checks on defender Anthony Gerrard, who was taken to hospital during Saturday’s game after sustaining a chest injury in the first half.

Town manager Mark Robins said the 28-year-old was suffering from a “raised heartbeat and breathing difficulties” and had gone to hospital for a precautionary check-up.

Gerrard was replaced at half-time by Murray Wallace.

The Royals, who have not won in Berkshire in six matches, were fortunate to claim a point against a dominant Town.

The Terriers took the lead early on through striker Nakhi Wells, as the home defence was easily breached, but Reading equalised three minutes later when Pavel Pogrebnyak slotted in his second penalty in as many matches.

On the road, Town had won only once in 10 outings but they struck in the fourth minute, when Tommy Smith’s long ball evaded Sean Morrison and Wells was left with a clear run on goalkeeper Alex McCarthy. The Bermuda international comfortably beat McCarthy with a low shot.

It was his fifth goal for Huddersfield and 19th of the season, 14 having been scored for Bradford before his move from the League One club in the January transfer window.

However, Reading were level three minutes later. Jobi McAnuff appeared to be going nowhere in the area but Oliver Norwood foolishly tugged at his shirt. Pogrebnyak sent Alex Smithies the wrong way from the spot to score his 11th goal of the season.
