Reds up for daunting battle, believes Rowing

DON ROWING admits Barnsley face ‘21 cup finals’ to save their desperately disappointing season – starting with a huge ‘six-pointer’ at London Road today.

The Reds, who sacked Keith Hill on Saturday following the 3-1 home loss to Blackburn Rovers, which plunged them to the foot of the Championship, will be delighted to say good riddance to 2012 after a torrid calendar year.

But the new year brings new hope and despite the parlous position of the Reds, who will be led by caretaker chief David Flitcroft today, managing director Rowing remains optimistic.

He said: “There’s 21 league games left and we must treat each as a cup final. I am sure the players will be up for it and we will have a change in fortune.

“We have got to look ahead with optimism. I know we have got to work hard, but we must pull together and dig in and hope we can get the points we need. If we can get the three points today, it will be a great base to go forward.”

Emile Sinclair and Akos Buzsaky are out. Marcus Tudgay has gone back to Nottingham Forest with a shoulder injury.

Last six games: Peterborough LLWLDL; Barnsley LWWWLL.

Referee: D Drysdale (Lincs).
