The brilliant Bantams handed the Shrews their first home defeat of the season, knocking them off the top of the League One table in the process.

Alex Gilliead’s cross was deflected in to the Shrews’ net by hosts’ defender Aristote Nsiala in the second half to give Bradford their seventh away win of the campaign.

And McCall said: “It was a gutsy performance. We’ve had to be resolute and dogged. Three points is three points no matter how you get them. This was a different game to the one at Wigan last weekend. We knew this would be a game of just one goal. It was a great move for the goal and I think Paul Taylor was there to get on the end of it if it didn’t take a touch off their defender.”

Bradford were forced to defend for the majority of the first half.

The Shrews hammered on the door, but kept missing the target as Ben Godfrey, Shaun Whalley, Jon Nolan and Stefan Payne all failed to trouble Rouven Sattelmaier. Former Barnsley boy Payne called Sattelmaier in to action with the replacement keeper making a smart save at his near post.

After the break things turned in the Bantams’ favour as Newcastle loanee Gilliead playing a dangerous ball in to the box – with Nsiala converting in to his own net. As expected the visitors had to defend their lead valiantly at the end.

And Sattelmaier was on hand twice to secure all three points.
