Rival Yorkshire managers nominated for manager of the month awards

BRADFORD CITY manager Stuart McCall and Rotherham United counterpart Paul Warne are both in the running for the League One manager-of-the-month accolade for September after being named on the four-man shortlist.

Also on the list are Shrewsbury Town’s Sheffield-born manager Paul Hurst and ex-Middlesbrough chief Tony Mowbray, now managing Blackburn Rovers.

Meanwhile, the Millers also have a nominee on the list of League One player-of-the-months nominees in the shape of in-form striker Kieffer Moore.

McCall is named on the list after presiding over a return of five wins in seven league matches in September which have seen Bradford lose just once - and take 16 points from a possible 21 available, including derby victories over the Millers and Doncaster Rovers.

Warne also enjoyed a profitable September with Rotherham, who won five matches and lost two, with their run including a historic away win at Portsmouth and a 5-1 home drubbing of Oldham Athletic.

Hurst’s Shrewsbury side were unbeaten in September, winning six and drawing one of their games, while Mowbray’s Blackburn won four matches, drew once and lost two games.

Meanwhile, nine-goal Moore is on the shortlist for the players’ monthly gong after scoring five goals in seven matches last month.

All those goals arrived at the AESSEAL New York Stadium, with the loan forward hitting doubles in the wins over Bury and Oldham and also netting the only goal of the game in Saturday’s 1-0 triumph over Northampton Town.

Portsmouth Brett Pitman, who scored six goals last month, Wigan’s Michael Jacobs and Blackburn’s former Millers midfielder Richie Smallwood complete the shortlist.

The League One winners will be announced on Friday morning.
