Robins may delay pairing Vaughan with Wells

Nahki Wells, the Terriers’ £1.2m buy from local rivals Bradford City, enjoyed a dream start to his career at the John Smith’s Stadium when he came off the bench to net a dramatic last minute winner against Millwall.

That, though, is no guarantee that Wells will start today’s game at Queens Park Rangers.

Nor, Robins is quick to stress, is it by any means definite that 
12-goal top scorer Vaughan will go straight back into the side after missing the last month through injury.

Town fans heading to West London hoping to see the pair in tandem could, therefore, be left disappointed due to the form of Martin Paterson.

The Huddersfield manager said: “James has had a period out where he’s missed around a month through suspension and then another five games through injury.

“James has to be fit and firing because I want him out on the pitch for as long as he can be. He has trained this week and he’ll certainly be involved on Saturday.

“I can see him and Nahki forming a really good partnership. But he has to be ready to take that opportunity because Martin Paterson has scored five in as many games and Danny Ward is working his socks off.

“We also have Jon Stead who has not featured regularly, Cristian Lopez and Daniel Carr, who is currently out on loan.

“In the end, there are only one or two strikers who can play on a Saturday and that will leave some of those disappointed.

“They have to work hard to try and dislodge the players who are in form and in possession of the shirts.”

Whoever does get the nod 
today is likely to be in for a tough afternoon with Rangers having conceded just four goals at Loftus Road in 12 league outings this term. Despite that, and nine of those games on home soil being won, Harry Redknapp’s side sit third ahead of today’s visit from the West Yorkshire outfit.

Robins added: “QPR have conceded four goals at home all season. They are really stingy at the back.

“They have got good players throughout the side and they are talking about adding more from top clubs around the globe. It’s a really good club. This is a good opportunity to play against a side that is a favourite to go up this season.”

Joe Lolley, fresh from being the match-winner for Kidderminster Harriers against Peterborough in the FA Cup, is in the squad after joining Town for £250,000.
