Robins unhappy with week's work

Barnsley manager Mark Robins lamented a "disappointing week" as his side suffered their third defeat in a row to South Yorkshire rivals Doncaster.

The Tykes boss was not happy with the way his side defended for the winning goal and says they must be more alert in future.

Defeat in the derby followed the midweek loss at Bristol City when Barnsley went down 5-3.

"I was disappointed with the goal," he said. "They play short corners because they don't have much height and they sucked three players out of position and the ball fell to Coppinger.

"Doncaster play a good game of football and they pull you out of position. It was a really disappointing goal. It's been a really disappointing week.

"They moved the ball around better than us in the first half and created a lot of chances. In the second half we created one or two chances but I keep telling the players that we need to play until the final whistle of the season."

Rovers boss Sean O'Driscoll felt his side could have won by more than the single goal as he pointed to two wasted opportunities for Billy Sharp.

In particular, he was disappointed with the second of those when Sharp missed the target with a close-range header.

The striker, on a season-long loan from Sheffield United, has not scored a goal since members of the squad started to grow beards for charity.

It has also been a frustrating time for the team as they have played well in games against Newcastle and Sheffield United without winning over the past week.

The win keeps up their slim chances of making the Championship play-offs.

"Billy will be frustrated about that second miss," said manager O'Driscoll. "Since we've all been growing beards he hasn't scored a goal.

"We played brighter in the first half of the match and I was pleased with the play.

"We've played well in the last two games and only came out with one point; the players didn't want to end the month with a poor performance and I think it showed. They performed well throughout and deserved their victory in the end.

"In this league you can throw caution to the wind but you can also play without a lot of fear. We knew we wanted that win today."
