It is a case of second time lucky for Town, who were close to signing the 25-year-old on transfer deadline day, only for the move to fall through at the 11th hour.

Despite the setback, the Terriers maintained their interest in the Jamaica-born player, who joined Newcastle in 2012 after being released by Bristol City, with chairman Phil Hodkingson, speaking back in the autumn, stating that Aarons remained the club's top target for January.

Aarons has joined the Terriers on a contract that runs until the summer of 2023, with the club having the option of a further year’s extension.

While being predominantly left-sided, the pacy wingman can also operate successfully on the right and will offer a versatile option with a key forward currently sidelined in Josh Koroma.

Head Coach Carlos Corberán said: “Rolando is a winger who can play on the right and the left, which is something very positive for the squad; it is important to have players who can cover a couple of positions.

“Technically, he is aggressive in the one vs one situations, he has good balance and he also has the skills to unbalance the opponents.

Aarons arrives at the John Smith’s Stadium after a eight-and-a-half year spell with the Magpies where he gained experience of playing in the Premier League, as well as game time in Italy’s Serie A and the top-flight of Czech football through loan spells.

He spent a short spell at Sheffield Wednesday in 2018-19.

The winger is now eager to make up for lost time after being deemed as surplus to requirements at Tyenside, where he has failed to earn a place in the club's top-flight sqyad for the past three seasons.

On bringing in the mercurial winger, Town’s Head of Football Operations Leigh Bromby commented: “We’re all delighted to complete the signing of Rolando.

“Having been identified through our recruitment process, it was very clear from our early conversations just how determined he is to kick-start his career. That trait in a player’s character is very important to us; we want hungry players who have something to prove.

“Obviously the deal didn’t get done as quickly as we all wanted, but Rolando has been in constant contact since the summer window and has immersed himself in everything to do with Huddersfield Town, including our style of play.

“He will need a little time to become fully acclimatised to Carlos’ demands and to get up to speed having not played competitive games for a good while, but he will be a good addition to the squad.”
