Rotherham United 2 Oxford 1: Le Fondre returns to put an end to Don Valley problems

ROTHERHAM cut short a run of five games without a win thanks to two more goals from Adam Le Fondre.

It also ended a sequence of six home games since their last win at the Don Valley Stadium.

Once they had overcome a slow start, this win wasn't in doubt other than the margin being only one goal throughout the second half, a final scoreline which did scant justice to Rotherham's eventual dominance.

They also produced their best form for some weeks notably after Le Fondre had given them a 25th-minute lead, pouncing when a shot by Marcus Marshall was deflected into his path.

When he finished off following a header by Ryan Taylor 12 minutes later for his 16th goal of the season, Rotherham were in charge.

Oxford's goal from Simon Clist in first-half stoppage time was a jolt but did not stop Rotherham from going on to give the visiting defence a difficult time in the second half.

Without a right-back due to injuries, Rotherham brought in Danny Coid on loan from Blackpool the day before the game and he had a fine match at Don Valley.

However, they lost captain Ryan Cresswell to a back injury at half time thus casting initial doubt over his availability for Wednesday's FA Cup replay at York City.

Luke Ashworth proved an able deputy during the second half in which Rotherham should have added to their lead with Le Fondre denied his hat-trick by a fine save.

Nicky Law twice went close and late substitute Tom Elliott was robbed after he had broken away in stoppage time and looked sure to score.

Rotherham United: Warrington; Coid, Cresswell (Ashworth 46), Fenton, Newey; Marshall, Law, Bradley, Brogan (Ellison 70); Le Fondre, R Taylor (Elliott 83). Unused substitutes: Annerson, J Taylor, Harrison, Warne.
