Rotherham United 3 Crewe 1: Fenton nets for Millers

Rotherham United beat Crewe today 3-1 in League Two at the Don Valley Stadium.

Centre-back Nick Fenton overcame a back problem to resume in the heart of the third-placed Millers defence against their seventh-placed visitors.

Jason Taylor also returned from suspension and took his place in central midfield at Danny Harrison's expense.

Arsenal loan player Mark Randall again had to be content with a place on the bench.

Both sides knocked the ball around well in difficult conditions, the pitch cutting up due to the incessant rain, but neither goalkeeper was troubled until the Millers struck just before the break.

A short corner was cleared but Marcus Marshall got the ball back in and captain Fenton, who had stayed up from the corner, prodded home from inside the six-yard area.

Crewe struck a fortunate equaliser in the 62nd minute, the flag staying down, allowing Ajay Leitch-Smith to strike home from a couple of yards inside the area.

The Millers stormed back and ensured victory with two late goals, Adam Le Fondre reacting the quickest to a nod down from Ryan Taylor to nip the ball over Rhys Taylor to make it 2-1.

Then Taylor struck himself, cutting in from the right and rifling the ball into the far corner of the net as the Crewe defence wrongly anticipated a pass to Le Fondre.
