Rotherham United 3 Macclesfield Town 1: Millers hoisted higher by dramatic late brace

Two goals in three minutes late in the game ended Rotherham United's mounting frustration and helped lift them into the top three in League Two.

The breakthrough goal 10 minutes from time was controversial. Adam Le Fondre appeared to be tripped working his way along the bye-line and after the referee spoke to his assistant he awarded a spot-kick which angered Macclesfield.

After a lengthy delay Le Fondre was stroked home the penalty, his 27th goal of the season.

Three minutes later the points were wrapped up. Substitute Abdulai Bell-Baggie went clear and when his shot came back off goalkeeper John Brain, Drewe Broughton was on the spot to finish off.

Rotherham had looked to be on the way to victory after just 11 minutes.

A clearance dropped just outside the penalty area and midfielder Danny Harrison struck a superb first-time effort into the far corner.

It was the perfect start against a defensively-minded side who played five across the back and packed midfield as well.

However, it was their lone striker Ben Wright who stunned Rotherham by snatching an equaliser on 25 minutes, finishing off after a shot by Lee Bell had been blocked.

Harrison and Marcus Marshall went close as Rotherham spent the second half trying to break through but the home side were grateful when it was still level following a bad miss by Emile Sinclair in one of the few attacks from Macclesfield.
