Rotherham United 3 Wycombe 4: Millers fuming after spot-kick decider

THIS thriller did not deserve to be settled by a highly dubious penalty decision.

There was uproar when Peter Quinn awarded Wycombe an 82nd-minute spot-kick following a challenge by Johnny Mullins on Kevin Betsy.

Mullins appeared to reach the ball and knock it behind for a corner.

Betsy's momentum seemed to take him onto the sliding defender's outstretched leg and he fell over.

"The referee must have had some doubts otherwise why did he go across to his linesman, who hadn't indicated a foul?" said Rotherham manager Ronnie Moore.

"The fourth official on the touchline was miked up and we heard the linesman say he didn't think it was a penalty but the referee decided to stick with his original decision.

"No-one agreed with it but it shouldn't have mattered. We had got back in the game and had enough chances to have won it but we have to defend better."

Without central defender Ryan Cresswell (back injury), the Millers were two down in 18 minutes to Betsy and Matt Bloomfield.

Adam Le Fondre and Jason Taylor pulled Rotherham level before Nicky Law, brilliantly thwarted by Nikki Bull, missed an absolute sitter.

Right on half-time, Ben Strevens restored Wycombe's lead with a strike from 22 yards.

Le Fondre fired home from the penalty spot for his 13th goal of the season and Rotherham would have gone in front but for Bull denying Jason Taylor.

Scott Rendell netted the winner after the penalty award.
