Rotherham United beat off interest to sign Florian Jozefzoon

ROTHERHAM UNITED have completed the signing of Derby County winger Florian Jozefzoon on a season-long loan.

Derby have a recall clause that they can potentially trigger in January if they wish to recall him.

The arrival of the former Netherlands under-21s international, 29, will help compensate for the loss of Chiedozie Ogbene, set to be sidelined for four months following knee surgery.

Jozefzoon's signing is likely to conclude incoming business in this window for the Millers, who have previously brought in eight players.

Millers chief Paul Warne said: "I knew about Flo at Brentford and saw him play a bit and have also seen him play a little bit at Derby.

"He had many options for many weeks really and we were highlighted to the fact that he was available.

"So that accelerated his dream of getting him, really as I thought he was out of our reach.

"A lot of work from the recruitment team, as always, made it a bit more feasible and obviously with Derby's help.

"I like him because from a footballing point of view, he can play in three different positions. He can play on the right, left or as a 'ten'. When he is at his best, he is confident and will run past people and has got a good work ethic.

"I just think he has a bit of guile. We have always looked for competition anyway and Chieo had started the season really well and we were always looking for that.

"But it intensified the search with Chieo being out for so long. We just lacked that dynamic point of Chieo's game and going forward, we definitely needed something else and Flo will be a great addition.

"We have got him until the end of the season but with all loan deals there is the chance for the parent club to take him back.

"If he does really, really well for us and sets the world alight we might lose him but that's the risk we take when we loan players. Hopefully he has a great season and gets back to his best and opens up opportunities for him at the end of the season.

Warne also confirmed that a couple of fringe players could leave the club before Friday's 5pm deadline.
