However, he is happy to take the team for Saturday’s game against Birmingham City unless an appointment is made prior to the match.

Neil Redfearn was dismissed from his role as Rotherham manager on Monday, having overseen two defeats on the spin against fellow relegation candidates Charlton Athletic and Bolton Wanderers.

The former Leeds head coach only brought in Eaden as his assistant last Thursday.

Asked whether he would be interested in the manager’s job on a permanent basis, he said: “No. Definitely out.”

Asked about preparing the team, he added: “Until the club decides otherwise, yeah (I’m happy). That is generally what happens and that’s the nature of the job.

“I do have a role at the club and for the time being I have to look after things until an appointment is made.”
