Rotherham United face more fixture congestion as Brentford and Luton Town trips postponed due to Covid-19 outbreak

Already Paul Warne's side had more games to play than their relegation rivals, with two games in hand on Huddersfield Town, Coventry City and Birmingham City, and one on Sheffield Wednesday. They are three points from safety after Wednesday's dramatic 2-1 win over the Owls, but would have hoped to build on it at Brentford s Community Stadium, then at Kenilworth Road.

The Brentford game was postponed after consultation with Football League doctors and following discussions with the hosts, and the Luton match followed hours later.

Rotherham have also closed their Roundwood training ground to try to control the outbreak.

Their December games against Derby County and Middlesbrough were called off because of coronavirus cases within the squad, the rearranged game against Derby fell foul of a waterlogged pitch, and the visit of Queens Park Rangers was called off because of a frozen New York Stadium pitch. The game at Luton was originally due to be played in January, but was postponed because of the Hatters' involvement in the FA Cup.

The Championship season is due to finish on May 8, but will be interrupted by a two-week international break at the end of March. Rotherham have 14 games to play in those nine weeks.

The trip to Brentford will now take place on April 27 at 7pm.
