Rotherham had been in the market for an attack-minded player in the middle of the park following Tony Andreu’s return to parent club Norwich and after plenty of speculation, they have now brought in Shinnie.

The Millers hoped to sign the 26-year-old former Inverness player in time for Saturday’s 2-2 draw at Cardiff, but the move was delayed due to ongoing deals further up the chain.

Aberdeen-born Shinnie has very much played second fiddle to Arsenal loanee Jon Toral in the hole behind Clayton Donaldson at St Andrew’s this season.

He has made 17 appearances for Blues this term, scoring once.

Blues offloading of Shinnie is likely to be followed by the firming up of a move to sign Middlesbrough loanee Diego Fabbrini, set to join the Midlanders on a permanent basis following discussions with his parent club Watford.

Shinnie’s arrival follows on from the signing of Chris Burke on loan from Nottingham Forest for the rest of the season, with the Millers also busy last week - bringing in ex-Leeds striker Luciano Becchio on a short-term deal.

Rotherham have also brought in Tunisian defender Aymen Belaid, Manchester City defender Shay Facey and and former Leeds keeper Alex Cairns, with Shinnie being their sixth signing of a busy transfer window.
