Barnet 1 Rotherham United 1: Pringle comes to the rescue for Millers but Scott is left fuming

ROTHERHAM United’s play-off hopes are fading fast.

They are now eight points behind seventh-placed Oxford United and no longer have games in hand.

Rotherham United manager Andy Scott was left fuming by his side’s inability to beat a Barnet side who were reduced to 10 men in the 65th minute when Paul Downing was sent off for a second yellow card.

“I’m sick of saying the same things. It’s easy to come from behind again, but I need men at this football club, I need winners. It’s about time the winners in this team did something about the ones who don’t want to be winners,” blasted Scott.

“I can only do so much. It takes the group to separate the weak from the strong and, until we do that, we’re not going to win matches from the start.

“The first half we completely neglected the basics of the job. We’ve given a lifeline to a side that have lost four games on the bounce.”

Barnet midfield man Mark Byrne scored a fortuitous seventh-minute free-kick to help end his side’s run of four successive defeats.

Byrne’s delivery eluded everyone to find the net and Scott McGleish almost added another but just failed to reach Ricky Holmes’s cross.

Rotherham made a double substitution at the break, bringing on Ben Pringle and Danny Schofield and it was Pringle who levelled in the 49th minute.

Mark Bradley delivered the ball to the far post where Alex Revell challenged. As the ball bounced down, Pringle took his chance, nudged the ball forward and slipped his shot under the goalkeeper to celebrate his first appearance for four months.

But that was as good as it got for the visitors as the hosts were galvanised by Downing’s red card.
