Bolton v Rotherham: Star striker Becchio has time to catch up

Steve Evans says Luciano Becchio is three weeks away from full match fitness.

The former Leeds striker was Rotherham United’s marquee signing not only of deadline day two weeks ago, but the whole summer.

He has barely played for Norwich over the last 12 months and was a marginal decision to make his debut at Bournemouth on Saturday.

But mindful that to get up to match speed quickly there is no better way than to throw a playerin at the deep end, Evans started with the Argentinian in his strike force.

Becchio managed just 50 minutes at Dean Court, with Evans promising Millers fans there is much more to come.

“Heading down to Bournemouth on the Friday I wasn’t going to play him, but after talking with my staff I decided to get him involved,” said Evans

“We know that we’re going to wrestle with that dilemma for the next three or four weeks as we wait to to get Luciano fully fit.

“He’s impeccably fit in terms of physique, but not match-fit and match-sharp, so we’ll work on that over the next two or three weeks.

“By then we’ll see a different Luciano to what we see at the minute.”

Rotherham haven’t played Bolton in over two decades, with the Wanderers predominently a Premier League side in that time and the Millers largely playing in the bottom two divisions.
