Burton Albion 2 Rotherham United 4: Le Fondre’s lucky strike ends the away day blues for Moore’s Millers

Five successive away defeats had put dents in their League Two promotion ambitions and they seemed on course for another one when trailing 2-1 at half-time and being fortunate it was not more.

But their much-improved second half display pulled them level before Le Fondre struck with two minutes to go, his shot on the turn sending the ball in an arc before going in off the bar.

“Alf says it wasn’t a miscue but it looked like it was off the shin to me,” laughed Rotherham manager Ronnie Moore.

“But you take anything and it was reward for the second half display which was fantastic. The first half hadn’t been good enough and it could have been far worse than a 2-1 deficit.”

Rotherham were behind in the first minute to Greg Pearson but defender Johnny Mullins headed the equaliser four minutes later, his first goal for Rotherham.

Aaron Webster restored Burton’s lead after 34 minutes but was the home side’s villain five minutes into the second half when he rattled his penalty kick against the bar.

Rotherham went on to dominate the second half but it needed the introduction of substitute Liam Henderson to help get them level, his fine centre headed home by Marcus Marshall with 16 minutes left.

As Rotherham pressed, Nicky Law was denied by a brilliant save before Le Fondre’s late strike put them in front with the points clinched in stoppage time when midfielder Jason Taylor finished off a classic breakaway following a cleared corner.
