Cadamarteri and Kay agree new contracts to stay at Huddersfield

Town lost 3-0 to Peterborough on an agonising day for Clark and his squad, but the manager’s rallying speech on the bus journey back across the Pennines proved to Cadamarteri that defeat had not dented the club’s ambition.

Yesterday the former Everton and Bradford City striker, 31, signed a new one-year deal to stay at Huddersfield, while 28-year-old midfielder Antony Kay penned a two-year extension.

“I have loved my time back here,” said Cadamarteri, who rejoined Town from Dundee United in January. “The only downside has been the play-off final.

“The manager’s comments on the bus to us all following the play-off final were a big factor in my decision to stay too.

“He was obviously very disappointed to lose the game, as we all were, but he made it obvious how proud he was at what we had achieved throughout the season and he explained that he was going to do all he could to keep the same squad together.

“I think that was a clear indication of the club’s ambition to mount a serious promotion challenge again this season.”

Kay, who also played in the Old Trafford defeat, joined from Tranmere in the summer of 2009. He has made 88 appearances, scoring 11 goals.

Rotherham United have completed their seventh signing of the summer after agreeing terms with striker Lewis Grabban.

He signed a two-year deal and joins the Millers from Brentford, where he played for current Millers boss Andy Scott.

“After speaking with the gaffer I felt that this was the best move for me,” Grabban said.

“I know him very well, I know what he is about and I know what he will try to do for next season so it was an easy decision for me.”

England Under-21 internationals Danny Rose and Kyle Walker have signed contract extensions with Tottenham until 2015 and 2016 respectively.

Brighton have won the race to sign Peterborough’s Craig Mackail-Smith for a fee which could rise to a reported £3.25m, after beating off competition from Leicester City and West Ham.
