Capital punishment is not on Millers agenda

The compact surroundings of Kingsmeadow do not differ greatly from the Daggers’ Victoria Road home where the Millers came a cropper in an embarrassing 5-0 loss on November 10, but boss Evans feels his side have moved on from that lamentable episode.

The likes of key summer signing Kari Arnason – who the Millers are determined to keep hold off in the transfer window – are now back in the fray, with the postponement of Tuesday’s FA Cup replay at Notts County having afforded the Icelander extra time to get up to full fitness.

Evans, whose side produced an excellent display despite unluckily losing 2-1 at home to leaders Gillingham last time out, said: “We will have a different side out than at Dagenham.

“They are another of the smaller clubs at this level, but they have had a resurgence since the new manager came in and anyone who saw the FA Cup game at 
MK Dons will know how well they did. That is a warning to us over what they are capable of. But if we work hard and play well enough, then it will be enough.”

Evans has confirmed that the future of on-loan midfielder Lee Frecklington will be discussed next week with a permanent move in the January transfer window firmly on the agenda.

The Millers and Frecklington’s parent club Peterborough United opened discussions aimed at thrashing out a fee a few weeks ago and more talks are scheduled for next week.

Evans said: “Lee has made it perfectly clear he wants to be at Rotherham United. It is now up to the clubs to agree a fee.

“It is more likely to happen than not to happen, but as we have learned it is difficult and we do not talk about it in any great detail until the papers are signed.”

Evans has distanced himself from speculation linking him with a move for Crawley midfielder Sergio Torres.

Reports in Sussex had linked Evans with a January move for the Argentinean but Evans has said any move for the 29-year-old is unlikely.

Danny Schofield has returned to the club following a loan spell at Accrington Stanley.
