Evans excited about Rotherham’s future

STEVE EVANS admits Rotherham United are still a work in progress but he is excited about the club’s chances of stepping up a gear in the second half of the season.

The Millers travel to Accrington Stanley sitting tenth in League Two and one point outside the play-off places.

Rotherham are yet to win away from home and will attempt to do so at the Crown Ground without Evans, who will serve the fifth of a six-game stadium ban tonight handed down by the FA for an incident that followed a game between his then club Crawley Town and Bradford City in March.

United are desperate to get their manager back in the dugout and there can be little doubt that Evans’s return – which is due on October 13 – will give everyone at the New York Stadium a lift.

On his side’s push for League One, Evans said: “Our squad is excellent and, as expected, it is taking time to gel. But the longer the season goes, the better the understanding the players will have and that is why I am so excited about the second half of the season.”

Laurie Wilson is back in training after injury but the Millers are expecting to stick with newly-arrived loanee left-back Ben Harris for the trip to Lancashire.

Evans is also without Alex Revell, who serves the second of a three-game ban following his dismissal against Barnet 10 days ago.
