Harris is open to longer stay with Rotherham

The Seasiders’ left-back joined on an emergency one-month loan deal on Thursday.

He will be handed his debut in today’s League One home match with Oxford United, managed by ex-Miller Chris Wilder.

The former Queen of the South defender, who has started just one Championship game for Blackpool this season – the 1-1 draw against Barnsley at Oakwell on September 15 – has left the door wide open to the possibility of lengthening the deal further should everything go well.

The initial loan can be extended to the maximum 93 days if required.

Harris, 25, who will provide a natural left-back alternative to crocked summer signing Laurie Wilson, out for an extended spell due to complications following a knee injury, said: “If I’m not going to be playing at Blackpool, then I’d be looking to extend the deal; it would clearly benefit me and both clubs.

“I had an injury at the end of pre-season, and although I’ve been back fit for a while the gaffer said I need some game time.

“He’s said I’m in his plans, but need a few games under my belt before I’m available.

“I’ve played in reserve games and in the game against Barnsley so I am fit, and I just want to get going.”

The Millers will hand a late fitness test to Icelandic international Kari Arnason and will give him as much time as possible to prove himself following an ankle problem.

After a flying start to the season, today’s opponents Oxford are in a slump.

They have lost their last four league games and six of the last seven matches in all competitions.

But Rotherham’s assistant manager Paul Raynor is not taking that form as a true guide.

He said: “They look like contenders on paper.

“They have lots of attacking options available to them and they will certainly be a threat.

“We will have to nullify that threat.”
