Injured Morgan ruled out until Christmas to add to Millers’ woes

Defender Chris Morgan has been ruled out until Christmas to add to Rotherham United’s mounting injury problems.

The former Preston North End centre-half was forced to hobble off with a suspected ankle injury in Saturday’s impressive 4-2 win over high-flying Cheltenham Town.

The 27-year-old Welsh defender was sent to hospital for x-rays after the game which revealed he had broken a small bone and now faces a lengthy spell on the sidelines.

“Last night I could have cried when it was confirmed Craig will be out for four or five weeks,” said manager Steve Evans, whose side host struggling Wycombe at the New York Stadium tonight in League Two.

“A number of hours in the hospital including several x-rays confirmed he has broken a small bone at the bottom of his fibula.

“The lad has been brilliant for us and is a loss, but added to the big players we have missing it really is another big blow but we will deal with it.

“As for the other injuries, there is nothing to report other than none of them are close to returning. This injury crisis is the worst I have ever experienced but you don’t get down, it makes you fight harder and demands you work smarter.”

Evans loves dabbling in the transfer market, his latest import 19-year-old Courtney Cameron impressing on debut on Saturday after joining on loan from Aston Villa, and more additions are expected before Thursday’s loan transfer window closes.

After beating third-placed Cheltenham, the Millers shift their attentions to a Wycombe side marooned at the bottom of the Football League.

But Evans has warned his patched-up team, who sit level with Bradford City – the team who occupy the final play-off spot – with a game in hand, to be wary of being complacent.

“I can say now we can expect a really tough evening against a decent team,” said Evans.

“Wanderers lost on Saturday at Northampton Town but it was an evenly contested match in which they were very unlucky to have lost.”
