Ipswich 2 Rotherham United 0: Millers want points rather than plaudits

Following defeat against an Ipswich side who moved up to fourth, Raynor said: “It is nice getting the plaudits but we would prefer scruffy 1-0s and getting more points on the board.

“We left ourselves with a mountain to climb and we need to look at that. We lost our men and we will look at whether Scott Loach could have done better with the opening goal.

“We are evolving and we are no longer in awe of the names or the players in this league.

“We have again proved we can compete and shown our spirit and togetherness. There were lots of pluses. We just need to find someone who is going to score the goals. If there is no-one in the squad, we will look to bring someone in.”

By contrast, manager Mick McCarthy hailed David McGoldrick as one of the best strikers in the Championship after their fourth consecutive win.

McGoldrick’s strike partner Daryl Murphy continued his own fine start to the season, nodding home from close range with just three minutes on the clock.

The lead was quickly doubled when McGoldrick picked up a short pass from Luke Hyam before unleashing a fantastic 25-yard, left-foot shot into the corner of the net.

McCarthy added: “It was a fantastic first half for us, although Rotherham were excellent after that and got on the front foot.”
