Law reaches milestone with new Millers offer on horizon

Rotherham United manager Andy Scott wants Nicky Law and Ryan Taylor to sign new deals with the club this summer.

The Millers, who visit Northampton Town tonight, are locked in a battle to qualify for this season’s League Two play-offs after winning just once in the last 10 games.

But Scott is still hoping to persuade the pair to stay at the Don Valley Stadium and help the club go forward next season.

“I will speak to them because it is important to know what their feelings are and to get across my ideas for the future and how they fit into that,” he said. “It’s important we retain our best players because, to get promoted, you need good players and those two certainly fit that category.”

Former Sheffield United midfielder Law, 23, joined the Millers two summers ago and is set to make his 100th appearance for the club tonight at the Sixfields Stadium.

Rotherham-born Taylor, also 23, came through the club’s youth system and made his 150th appearance in last weekend’s goalless draw with Hereford United.

Tonight’s game is vital for both clubs if they are to achieve their goals this season.

With four games to play, the Millers are four points adrift of the top seven while the Cobblers are battling for survival after going 16 games without a win.

Scott has strikers Adam Le Fondre and Ian Thomas-Moore pushing for recalls tonight but may decide to stick with Taylor and Tom Pope.

“I had a good look at things on Saturday and the front two worked very, very hard and created a lot of chances,” he said.

“We have got ‘Alfie’ now and Ian has scored goals at this level for years. We have good options but we just have to give them the ammunition to score goals.”

Former Bristol City manager Gary Johnson was put in charge on March 4 following the sacking of Ian Sampson but has claimed just four points from nine games.
