Millers are heading for Sheffield to create away day feeling at NYS

While the high-flying Millers have been in irresistible form on their travels, with Tuesday night’s victory at Ronnie Moore’s Tranmere Rovers being their sixth in their past seven outings, it is in marked contrast to their results on home soil, which are poor in comparison.

The statistics bear this out, with Steve Evans’s side possessing the second best away form in League One and Football League, behind weekend opponents Leyton Orient, with an impressive return of nine victories from 14 fixtures.

At the NYS, it has been a different story with just four wins from 14 matches to their name, prompting Evans to make a change to their weekend preparations ahead of the clash with leaders Orient.

Evans said: “It will be a different pre-match preparation because we are going on a team coach and will go over to the other side of Sheffield and think it is an away game and convince us we are away from home to Leyton Orient and go back to New York. We’ll see if we can swap dressing-rooms for the day.”

On his side’s relative struggles in their own backyard in comparison to their fine away sequence, he added: “Players do get inspired and want to play there and it’s a different game. Teams come and play counter attack and we’ll hopefully learn a bit because on Saturday, I would describe Leyton Orient as a top side and the hardest working side in the league outside of us – and I think we are up there with the best of them.

“If we can manage to scrape into those play-offs by the end of the season, I don’t care where they (the points) come from.

“We’d love them at home for our supporters; of course we would.”

A brace from Alex Revell provided the Millers with the perfect platform ahead of the Orient game, with Evans now focusing his attempts on bolstering his squad before tomorrow’s 11pm transfer window deadline. Evans is working on one deal to bring a player from a ‘higher division’ in a club-record move.
