Millers battle to beat bug

STEVE EVANS is keeping his fingers crossed that a sickness bug which has afflicted a host of his players this festive season clears for the visit of Coventry City.

A number of Rotherham United players have been under the weather in recent days, with manager Evans holding a roll call yesterday ahead of today’s game.

One of those who has suffered the worst has been midfielder Lee Frecklington, who was “smashed to bits”, according to Evans, by the bug, the symptoms of which usually last 24 to 48 hours.

He says Frecklington’s condition has improved slightly since the start of the week, with other key players, including Craig Morgan and Kari Arnason, also feeling unwell during the holiday season.

Evans, who confirmed the club will not appeal against the red card issued to Claude Davis at Port Vale on Sunday, said: “There’s still a sickness and illness bug in the camp and the majority of the squad have had symptoms. Some it has affected more than others. We have been badly affected since Boxing Day.”

Ben Pringle misses the game due to a one-match ban, but the Millers have received a pre-match boost with Newcastle loan players James Tavernier and Haris Vuckic extending their stints until the end of the month.
