Millers fail to get back on the winning track despite Grabban stunner

Lewis Grabban put the Millers in front with a tremendous solo effort, running from just inside his own half before striking a shot from 35 yards into the top corner in the 22nd minute.

Sixth-placed Shrews equalised when substitute Shane Cansdell-Sherriff volleyed home after Jermaine Grandison had headed Mark Wright’s free-kick back across goal.

“We just don’t seem to be able to get going in the second half and it’s frustrating,” said Millers chief Andy Scott.

“It’s probably a fair result but we were a much better side in the first half.”

Rotherham went into the game on a run of five losses in all competitions – the last time the club lost five in succession was in April, 2005 in the Championship.

Among Rotherham’s defensive problems have been the concession of early goals and they might well have fallen behind in just the second minute but a fine tackle by Mullins denied Morgan.

At the other end, Evans fired an angled shot just over before Tonge was taken off for a spell for stitches to a cut head after making a brave header just inside the area.

After the opener, Grabban almost scored a second but turned a cross from Evans straight at the goalkeeper.

Evans twice went close and Grabban was also denied by Chris Neal before the Shrews equalised just before the break.

After the interval, Marcus Marshall curled a shot just over before being replaced as the hosts searched for an elusive winner – Evans also missing his kick from 12 yards out.
