Millers’ Hunt open to a move abroad

Hunt still has a year of his contract to run with the Millers but manager Steve Evans has informed the 29-year-old he does not figure in his plans for the new campaign.

The former Bolton man spent the second half of last season on loan at Accrington, starting 11 League Two games.

However, Hunt admits the future is now uncertain. And whilst he would prefer to remain in England, a move overseas cannot be ruled out.

“I just want to play football,” he said. “A lot of thought goes into decisions like this because they it is life-changing. I might end up three hours away, or it could be half an hour and nothing much changes. We have a little girl and I have a lot of family close to me so a lot of factors come into it.

“But you never know. I might get a telephone call with an offer from Australia, USA, Cyprus, Greece, anywhere. I can’t afford to rule anything out at this stage.”

The uncertainty is a far cry from the high point of Hunt’s career, making 161 appearances for home town club Bolton, before spells with Birmingham, Derby and Preston.

Moving to Rotherham has not worked out, although he insists he would not alter a thing.

“Change is part of football,” he said. “It is very rare that people stay at one club like Ryan Giggs, Paul Scholes, Steven Gerrard and Jamie Carragher have done. When I left Bolton I felt it was the right time to move on and get a fresh start and I am ready to do that again.”
