Millers must repay fans’ support, demands Evans

THE personnel involved six months ago when Rotherham United last hosted Morecambe may not have changed as much as might be expected.

But, in every other sense, the Millers are a very different prospect to the one that beat the Shrimpers 3-2 in their penultimate game at the Don Valley Stadium.

Not only do Rotherham have a gleaming new home but – despite a position at the moment that is outside the play-off spots – they are still strongly expected to be involved in the automatic promotion mix.

After the manner in which the Millers bounced back from the abject home defeat to Southend by winning 3-0 at Aldershot on Saturday, manager Steve Evans believes things are moving in the right direction.

He said: “Our supporters are good people, they know their football and their support for our football club is outstanding.

“In my opinion, it is criminal not to give them the effort and desire they deserve and last week needed to be a wake-up call. That will never be acceptable here in any form and they will be out of the team until they learn that.

“Against Aldershot, the lads put in a real shift and by doing that it allowed them to get their ability on show.”

Six of the starting line-up against Morecambe on April 21 are still at the club, while a seventh – John Mullins – only recently went out on loan to Oxford United.

Andy Warrington, one of those half dozen to start against Morecambe in April who are still with the Millers, will continue in goal due to Scott Shearer being sidelined for six weeks following knee surgery.
