Morecambe 3 Rotherham United 3: Millers’ Revell celebrates son’s birth in timely way

Striker Alex Revell celebrated becoming a father by scoring the equaliser to cap a great Rotherham United comeback.

Trailing 3-0 after 35 minutes, the Millers powered back to grab a point with goals from Lewis Grabban, Gareth Evans and Revell, back in the side after the birth of his son at the weekend.

The Shrimps took the lead after two minutes when Gary McDonald slotted home at the near post. The Millers rallied briefly with Evans and Grabban both going close, but they were seemingly out of it after conceding two first-half penalties.

Goalkeeper Andy Warrington’s foul on Lewis Alessandra gave Lawrence Wilson the chance to fire home from the spot for 2-0 and Wilson made no mistake again from 12 yards after Jon Harley upended Jason Price.

But referee Tony Bates handed Rotherham a lifeline three minutes later when he awarded his third penalty of the night. Garry Hunter brought down Revell and top scorer Grabban stepped up to convert his eighth goal of the season.

Grabban made way for Chris Holroyd in the second half and the lively substitute twice went close to pulling a goal back as the visitors got on top and their pressure was awarded just before the hour mark when Evans rifled in from 18 yards to make it 3-2.

Revell’s glancing header on 68 minutes completed a remarkable turnaround for the visitors.
