Norwich 1 Rotherham United 1: Evans left both satisfied and little frustrated with Millers’ point

Rotherham United manager Steve Evans was full of praise for his side’s battling efforts, but less than impressed with the lead-up to Norwich City’s equalising goal.

“Norwich had a lot of the ball, but we had four or five good opportunities to get 2-0 in front, so we are disappointed with that, but it was a hard-earned point,” said Evans.

“It is a shame the referee does not get the decision right with the handball for the free-kick which led to the goal, but to be fair to him, it was given by the assistant and how he can see it is X-ray vision stuff, but the crowd shout and the official delivered.”

The Canaries had been beaten 1-0 at home on Tuesday night by a smash-and-grab raid from Charlton, and more frustrations followed after a string of chances were not converted before Rotherham went ahead on 44 minutes through a penalty from Paul Green. Rotherham were awarded the spot-kick when John Ruddy clattered Matt Derbyshire, before being shown a yellow card by Phil Gibbs and not red as Michael Turner was behind to cover.

Norwich upped the tempo following the restart and were level when Cameron Jermone knocked in a rebound after a free-kick from substitute Kyle Lafferty.

The home side pressed, with substitute Josh Murphy causing problems down the right, but were unable to find a second goal, meaning they have not won at home in the league since August 19 .

While manager Neil Adams accepts the Norfolk side, relegated from the Premier League last season, should be sitting on a healthy lead going into the international break, he is confident results will come.

“We have let five points slip through our fingers in the past two games.

“However, if we had been very poor, I would have been worried, but at the moment, there is very little wrong with our performances,” said Adams.
