Owls strikers are backed
to deliver

Jose Semedo believes Sheffield Wednesday have the strikers to help end their barren spell.

Just three goals at Hillsborough in the Championship – and just one home win in seven months – have seen the Owls’ bright start to the season fade.

Head coach Stuart Gray is desperate to bring in a couple of attackers on loan by the end of the two-week international break but Semedo says the team still has confidence in the forwards.

Wednesday have gone 445 minutes since they last scored at Hillsborough, but the Owls midfielder said after his side were held 0-0 at home to Rotherham United: “I believe we have some of the best strikers in the division in our team.

“You see we have good players in training, very good quality strikers. I believe after the international break we will be working very hard to change that situation, and I am sure we will.

“Stevie May had a good game, Gary Taylor-Fletcher – before he came off – was giving the defender problems, and Atdhe (Nuhiu), we know he’s a top player for us.

“We are not really worried by the lack of goals, when you look at the results. You don’t see teams winning 3-0 all the time. We have got many clean sheets, which is good for us.

“If we were winning 1-0, no one would say we don’t score enough goals.

“Because we are not winning games, it’s normal to question that (the lack of goals).”

May has netted three goals this season, Nuhiu five (three in the league), with the Owls having scored just 12 in 17 Championship games.
