Perfect start sees Daley steer Millers to triumph

NewCOMER Omar Daley marked his full debut with a goal to help get Rotherham United’s promotion push back on track against plucky Accrington.

Making his full debut on loan from Bradford City, the Jamaican international drilled in just before the hour mark to set Ronnie Moore’s injury-hit side on the way to a much-needed win.

Missing forwards Ryan Taylor and Ian Thomas-Moore but with Liam Henderson – in on a one-month loan from Watford – also making his first start, they struggled and were indebted to some poor finishing from the visitors and good goalkeeping before Daley’s goal and a stoppage-time strike from Adam Le Fondre, his 20th of the season, wrapped up the points.

Andy Warrington excelled with two terrific saves to deny the visitors an equaliser when keeping out a stinging volley from Ian Craney and a 25-yarder from Luke Joyce. Stanley’s leading scorer Kerry Gornell also headed over an open goal from six yards.

The Millers should have been punished by the livelier visitors early on. Craney put a good chance wide inside the first minute and Warrington had to be smart to keep out a close-range backheel from Gornell.

Daley showed how it should be done when he seized on a rebound before Le Fondre fired in his 50th goal for the Millers.
