Rotherham United are Wembley bound after defeating Scunthorpe United 2-0 on the night, 4-2 on aggregate, to set up a League One play-off final with Shrewsbury Town on Sunday, May 27.
Leon Wobschall was pitchside to give his considered view on which Millers’ players led the way at the New York Stadium.
Rodak. Suffered a dodgy second half moment when he needlessly raced out of goal. Made amends with two important saves to deny Holmes. 7
Emmanuel. Not as prominent going forward as on Saturday. But provided a half-assist for the hosts’ second and with strong and alert in his defensive duties. 7
Wood. Captain’s header broke the deadlock and produced a commanding performance full of character and leadership, exemplified by a couple of fine second-half blocks. 9
Ihiehwe. Had one hairy moment in the first half, but generally more convincing than the weekend. Replaced on 52 minutes. 7
Mattock. Went desperately close to an opener with a point-blank header. Against a slippery customer in Adelakun, but did not have too many worries. Committed in his defensive work. Experienced showing. 8
Vaulks. An assist for the opener and heavily involved in the heat of battle and typically assertive and took centre stage with his second goal. Had a fine season. 8
Williams. Unlucky not to be awarded a penalty after being caught by Yates in the first period. 7
Palmer. The unassuming member of the Millers’ midfield. Industrious and bright . Neat and tidy and a vibrant heartbeat and a very sound addition. 7
Towell. Only a fantastic save from Watson denied him an early goal and underlined his importance to the hosts. 7
Newell. Given the nod ahead of good mate Taylor with his left foot always a handy weapon. Went close to scoring late on for the Millers twice. 7
Smith. Selfless work-rate and put himself about for the team and his appetite for work was highly commendable. A very astute signing. 7
