Plymouth Argyle 1 Rotherham United 4: Double delight as Millers finally end long wait for Home Park triumph

the Millers poured more misery on financially-stricken club Plymouth, who could go to the wall today if the players do not accept a wage deferral.

No Millers side had won at Home Park in 17 visits since 1970 and they had to come from behind this time.

Adam Le Fondre and Gareth Evans both bagged a double for the early leaders after debutant Will Atkinson had scored the opener for Plymouth in the 49th minute.

Lewis Grabban wasted several opportunities for the Millers before the break and they were made to pay as Atkinson got the ball wide on the left, was allowed to come inside and fire home from 20 yards past the diving Logan.

It could have been 2-0 in the next minute when a free-kick just outside the area was tapped to Walton, whose shot was deflected narrowly wide.

Rotherham’s response to the setback was perfect.

Evans, on 52 minutes, levelled things up as he raced to the left and then struck an angled shot which arrowed into the far corner.

On 59 minutes, things got better and it was Evans who struck again and a peach of a goal too. Le Fondre delivered the centre from the right and Evans came flying in to power a header past the goalkeeper’s right hand.

That long awaited win at the ground was secured with eight minutes left when Le Fondre slotted home from Danny Schofield’s pass before cheekily netting the fourth on 87 minutes.

Rotherham chief Andy Scott said: “It was an outstanding team performance. We changed the system to make sure that if they did get possesion then they’d have it in areas that we wanted them to and it worked very well.”
