Robertson offered new start by Millers chief Moore

FORMER Sheffield United striker Jordan Robertson has been offered an opportunity to resurrect his career by Rotherham United.

Robertson, 23, has joined the Millers on trial after being released from prison where he was serving a 32-month sentence for causing death by dangerous driving.

The Sheffield-born player was involved in a Christmas Day crash on the M1 two years ago which killed a father of five, Omar Mohamed, from Leicester.

Robertson, who was on loan to Southampton at the time, admitted that he had been trying to change songs on an iPod in his black Mercedes CLC 180 sports car when it ploughed into the back of the victim’s Ford Galaxy at 124mph.

Several other clubs, including Scottish Premier League club Dundee United, are also interested in Robertson, who is banned from driving for another three years.

Manager Ronnie Moore said: “He has been unfortunate. He is a player with tremendous ability and hopefully he can fulfil it (his potential) with us. He is big, strong, with a bit of pace, and he scores goals.

“He is a free agent and if we can do something it will be a bonus,” he added. “He is coming in so we can have a look at him.”

Moore revealed that Robertson was also a close friend of Millers captain Ryan Cresswell.

“There will be a lot of interest but he is a local lad and he knows ‘Cressy’ – that is part of the reason why he has come here first,” said Moore. “It is down to him now. We will see how it progresses and take it from there.”

The Millers visit Bradford City tonight for a Yorkshire derby that will impact at both ends of the League Two table.

The Bantams are six points clear of the relegation zone but are still looking nervously over their shoulders while the Millers are fourth and chasing one of the three automatic promotion places.

Swap pair wingers Omar Daley and Kevin Ellison are sidelined by the terms of their loan moves and both clubs have an option to cancel the deal this weekend.

Bradford’s new caretaker manager Peter Jackson could decide to recall crowd-pleaser Daley, who has made four appearances and scored one goal so far for the Millers.
