Rotherham 3 Dag & Red 1: Millers ease the pain of Wembley heartache but Scott is unimpressed

Yet manager Andy Scott was still not happy with the Millers’ overall performance.

In the last meeting between the sides, the London outfit came out on top, winning 3-2 in the League Two play-off final nearly 17 months ago.

Scott, named manager of the month for August after guiding the club to four wins and a draw from their opening five fixtures, had stated he wanted: “Three points to help the fans get over the disappointment of Wembley.”

But, although they did take the points, Scott said afterwards: “It was a 35-minute performance which, fortunately, got us through. It’s not good enough and I’m not happy and I have let the players know that. Standards have to be better than that.”

A blistering start by Rotherham saw them comfortably dispose of Dagenham.

Having gone close three times in the first five minutes, Gareth Evans gave them the lead when he converted Marcus Marshall’s cross to claim his second goal in as many home matches.

Scott Doe equalised by heading home from Gavin Tomlin’s corner despite Dale tonge attempting to clear off the line but Lewis Grabban restored the lead by glancing home a cross from Marshall.

Grabban hit his second when he latched on to Evans’s cross and turned sharply before unleashing an unstoppable effort into the bottom corner seven minutes before the interval.

Daggers made a double substitution at the break and they forced much of the pace but Rotherham went close as Tonge hit a fierce effort against the bar.
