Rotherham United 0 Barnet 2: Proud day for Davids as Barnet stun Millers

ROTHERHAM dropped out of the top three automatic promotion places as they followed up their FA Cup exit with a surprise home defeat against a club fighting to stave off relegation.

It was the man who replaced renowned player-manager Edgar Davids in the 68th minute, Andy Yiadom, who sealed the points for the visitors by sweeping in Ricky Holmes’s centre in the 82nd minute.

Jake Hyde had clipped the ball over Millers goalkeeper Andy Warrington after running through the middle unopposed to give Barnet the lead midway through the first period.

At the other end, Graham Stack had to be alert to keep out a brace of headers from Ian Sharps.

Rotherham assistant manager Paul Raynor admitted: “It’s disappointing to say the least. We started brightly, created one or two openings, their keeper made some good saves, but then it petered out a bit.

“We certainly had enough possession, but very disappointed with the result and the performance. Barnet have proved in recent weeks that if you give them something to hold on to they will do so. They sit behind the ball in numbers and try and hit you on the break.

“So, with all the possession we had we didn’t really create clear-cut opportunities and that’s disappointing.”

Former Holland star Davids, who employed a 4-5-1 formation, said: “I didn’t expect it but fortunately it went our way. I’m happy with how the players played.

“I think that we’ve played better in other games where we didn’t get the points. Getting the points just amplifies everything.

“But if you play well against a side as strong as Rotherham you have to be proud of the team.”
