Rotherham United 0 Hereford United 0: No complaints from new manager Scott as Millers draw a blank yet again

Rotherham made it five successive home games without a win and in four of them they have not scored.

It is a spell which has contributed towards their fading League Two play-off chances, although they are not out of it just yet.

It proved a frustrating start for new manager Andy Scott, the one-time Sheffield United player who was dismissed by Brentford a couple of months ago.

“I couldn’t really have asked for any more from the players because they gave everything and dominated the game,” said Scott.

“We were so much on top and most of the game was played in Hereford’s half but it seemed to be one of those days when efforts were blocked or the ball didn’t quite bounce the right way for us.

“But I can’t complain at the way the team played. It’s just a pity they didn’t get what they deserved.”

Scott refused to accept that Rotherham are out of the running for the play-offs, although they were helped on the day by the fact that their closest rivals above them all dropped points as well because they all drew.

Right from the first whistle, Rotherham bombarded Hereford.

The closest they came was when Ryan Cresswell had a header cleared off the line in the first half and, in stoppage time, Ryan Taylor also had the same misfortune.

When goalkeeper Adam Bartlett failed to hold a shot from Nicky Law, Hereford were rescued by a tremendous block from Stefan Stam when Ryan Taylor pounced on the loose ball.

Rotherham were rarely troubled at the back, although former Bradford City winger Joe Colbeck hit the outside of the post from a narrow angle late in the second half.
