Rotherham United 1 Fulham 3: Pringle back to haunt Millers as Evans fumes

“We made two or three errors for each of the Fulham goals,” said Evans. “We created two or three good chances in the first half and didn’t take them. We huffed and puffed in the second half.

“It’s evident after the games we’ve played that there’s a lot of work that needs to be done.

“We have to get back on the training ground and work hard and try and add a body or two.

“If I was a fan I wouldn’t be happy losing 3-1 at home to Fulham.”

Rotherham’s Frazer Richardson was carried off on a stretcher with an ankle injury and Evans said he will be assessed. “He’s gone over on hit after the challenge. There was nothing sinister in it.

“I thought it was a poor performance from us. We now have to take the criticism from the usual doom and gloom mongers.

“We have to say we were well beaten by a good Fulham side. We need the break that’s coming now to get players back.”

Fulham manager Kit Symons was pleased it was his side who got their season up and running.

The two teams entered the match without a win in the  Championship but it was the visitors who got their season kick-started.

Former Miller Ben Pringle gave Fulham a seventh-minute lead and ex-Leeds striker Ross McCormack made it two from the penalty spot on 16 minutes.

Matt Derbyshire had a penalty for the hosts saved by Andy Lonergan after 55 minutes before Jonson Clarke-Harris fired a goal back on 72 minutes.

Fulham substitute Cauley Woodrow finished the game off four minutes into stoppage-time with a smart finish.

“It was important we came and put in a decent performance and got three points on the board,” said Symons.

He praised Pringle, saying. “I was delighted for Ben. He’s a bit of a crowd favourite here as well that’s why I took him off with a minute or so to go so he could get the recognition I think he deserves from the Rotherham fans. He’s one of the unsung heroes. He works his socks off for the team.”
