Rotherham United 1 Plymouth Argyle 0: Millers target striker after on-loan Harrad is called back by Bury

Rotherham United manager Andy Scott will step up his search for a new striker this morning after losing loan signing Shaun Harrad.

The on-loan striker from Bury has been recalled by manager Richie Barker after a spate of injuries at Gigg Lane.

Harrad came on as a second-half substitute in Saturday’s 1-0 won over Plymouth at the Don Valley Stadium and Scott revealed he hoped to bring a player in before tomorrow’s game with Torquay United.

“Shaun will be going back unfortunately,” said Scott. “I spoke to Richie but they’ve had two injuries in midweek during their defeat with Sheffield Wednesday, so that’s a disappointment.

“Shaun’s disappointed he’s got to go back but that’s the nature of it, and we’ll keep in contact with Bury in case anything changes but this is one time of the season when we don’t want to be a player light.

“We’ve got more irons in the fire, but Shaun is disappointed as well, so we’ll see if anything changes at Bury, and see if it changes Richie’s view.

“The phone’s on and it will be ringing, so I’ll be ringing people over the weekend and on Monday.

“Ironically there are two players that we were looking at who are now in the first team at their respective clubs, in the Championship. It was always possible but we thought we had a chance of bringing them in and if we can get those great, but there are other names on the list,” added Scott.

Scott thought the Millers were worthy winners against Argyle, despite having to rely on Lewis Grabban’s second-half penalty to secure all three points in the chase of the League Two play-off spots.

Grabban grabbed his 17th goal of the season after former Sheffield Wednesday defender Darren Purse fouled substitute Gareth Evans.

“That’s what he does (Evans),” continued Scott.

“I think it has just highlighted what we have been missing in terms of us being nearly there. He gives us an outlet, he has pace and power. He uses both feet and his set-pieces were good as well, so we have missed him.”

Before that, Alex Revell had come close to putting Rotherham in front while at the other end Maxime Blanchard’s long-range effort was as close as the struggling visitors came to a goal.

“It was a good win,” said Scott. “We have talked about playing well and not winning, but sometimes it is just all about the points. We were comfortable, but we could have been a lot more comfortable. We had several chances early on with balls whipping across the box, Danny (Harrison) had a chance and there were balls that we should have hit.”
