Rotherham United: Evans pledges commitment to Millers

ROTHERHAM UNITED manager Steve Evans insists he is planning on being manager at the club for a good while yet – despite his rock-bottom side’s winless Championship start to the campaign continuing in a 2-1 loss at Brighton.

The table-topping Seagulls grabbed a goal in each half to secure their sixth win in seven outings and despite Jonson-Clarke Harris pulling a goal back for the Millers on 71 minutes, the visitors went down to their fifth defeat in seven league outings this term.

Speculation continues regarding the future of Evans, strongly linked with the vacant Peterborough job, although Posh chairman Darragh MacAnthony has coolled those rumours.

And Evans, who has a family home in Peterborough, says he has a project to continue at Rotherham, after finally breaking his silence regarding the Posh position.

He said: “I have not spoken to my chairman (Tony Stewart) and don’t know whether Peterborough have made an approach or not; I don’t think they have.

“I have said what the (Peterborough) chairman has said on social media. I have got a lot of respect for Darragh MacAnthony and Barry Fry (director of football) and they know that my project at Rotherham United is far from finished.

“As long as (chairman) tells me I’m the manager of this football club, I’ll be the manager of this football club.”

On his side’s display, the Scot added: “In the first half, both teams cancelled each other out.

“At half-time, I felt we needed to change shape and personnel and did that in the second half, when we were quite possibly the better side.

“We huffed and puffed in the last third, but the quality of the final ball was not quite there.

“I can’t fault the effort, commitment and passion in the team. Everyone ran until they dropped.”
