Rotherham United v Norwich City: Evans will not risk fitness of Mattock and Smallwood

ROTHERHAM United manager Steve Evans says he will not take any undue risks with the fitness of Joe Mattock and Richie Smallwood if they aren’t fit ahead of tomorrow’s Capital One Cup clash with Norwich City.

Both are struggling ahead of the Canaries test at the AESSEAL New York Stadium.

Evans said: “Joe is 50-50. He was 50-50 the day before we went down to play Nottingham Forest and came in and felt right to play. We will see how he is tomorrow.

“I would say we’d err on the side of caution if he’s 50-50 and if he’s not any better tomorrow, we will leave him for the weekend.

“Richie felt his hamstring and is feeling it slightly this morning. He had it last year, exactly the same thing and it was three or four days to clear up and Saturday to Tuesday could maybe a day too early for him. But we’ll see tomorrow.”

Evans will make selective changes for tomorrow’s cup clash, rather than wholesale ones.

One option is Adam Collin stepping in between the posts for Kelle Roos, whose difficult start continued at QPR on Saturday, but Evans is keeping tight-lipped over whether he will elect to make a change in goal.
