Shrewsbury Town 0 Rotherham United 3: Evans lauds team effort as Millers ease to win

ROTHERHAM United manager Steve Evans declined to pick out individuals for praise after his side’s impressive victory.

Evans said: “I was pleased with the contribution of all my players.

“It would be difficult to single anyone out as there were a lot of top performances.”

He added: “It’s very difficult to win away from home in League One and it’s a good win for us.”

The home side displayed a degree of edginess early on, a feeling increased when Rotherham took a ninth-minute lead.

Alex Revell and Lee Frecklington linked to supply James Tavernier whose cross from near the byline saw Tom Hitchcok score his first goal for the Millers with a header which proved too strong for Chris Weale to keep it out.

Inside a minute the visitors enjoyed a reprieve when John Taylor found Tom Eaves whose low shot slipped through Adam Collin’s grasp, hit a post and rebounded to safety.

Rotherham made the most of the let-off and went two in front on 18 minutes and added a third two minutes later.

Tavernier’s shot was groped away by Weale, but Hitchcock retrieved possession, fed Tavernier and his cross reached Revell.

He played it back towards the edge of the area where Ben Pringle brought it under control before striking an exquisite volley beyond Weale.

Shrewsbury visibly wilted and two minutes later Tavernier surged in from the right, played a lovely one-two with Hitchcock and ran on to hold off a challenge and beat Weale.

Some of Rotherham’s slick attacking play delighted Evans.

“We work every day on passing and moving,” he said. “We moved the ball around in the final third and moved defenders around.”
