Solitary strike from Pack sinks Millers

Rotherham United ended the year on a losing note as they became the latest victims of form team Cheltenham.

Striving to close in on the play-off positions, Andy Scott’s side were felled by the only goal of the game, drilled in low from 25 yards by Marlon Pack after only 10 minutes.

The Robins, unbeaten in seven games, went on to enjoy the better of the contest.

Millers’ goalkeeper Conrad Logan, playing his last game on loan before returning to parent club Leicester City, denied Luke Garbutt with a full-length save and Russell Penn should have doubled the advantage only to mis-kick.

Jimmy Spencer, on-loan from Huddersfield Town, also had Logan scrambling with a header which dropped inches wide.

Millers’ top scorer Louis Grabben flashed an effort close at the other end but the visitors were happy to get to half-time only a goal down.

Fighting to find a way back in the second half, they pushed forward and Gareth Evans clipped the woodwork from an acute angle. Rotherham had a claim for a penalty turned down when centre half Michael Raynes appeared to be tugged down in the area but it was the home side who continued to carry the cutting edge.

Spencer mis-cued from a good position, and hit a post, and substitute Kaid Mohamed was denied by another good stop from Logan.
