‘Sombrero Steve’ in beach mode for trip to Leeds United

Rotherham manager Steve Evans has said he will turn up to his side’s final game at Leeds dressed in shorts, T-shirt and a sombrero if the fans want him to.

The Scot joked before the game that if his side had achieved safety by the time they travelled to West Yorkshire he would wear his beach attire.

And Evans said he would go through with the promise if the viewers wanted it to happen.

“If you get enough tweets to the studio demanding to see me in shorts, T-shirt, sombrero and flip-flops, I’ll be there in them on Saturday,” Evans said. “But it has to be a response to leave me no option.

“I have got a nice pair of sunglasses I can wear.

“I’ll happily have my shorts on and I’ll see if I can buy a sombrero somewhere, it won’t look so good!”

Meanwhile, Rotherham will decide whether to appeal the Football League’s decision to dock them three points after meeting their legal representatives on Wednesday.

The Millers were hit with the penalty last week after a three-man football disciplinary commission found them guilty of fielding an ineligible player.

Derby defender Farrend Rawson played 90 minutes in Easter Monday’s 1-0 win over Brighton after his youth loan had expired without the correct paperwork being completed to extend it.

The deduction threw Steve Evans’ side into the relegation mire in the Sky Bet Championship, but four points from games against Norwich and Reading ensured them of their second-tier status regardless of the lost points.

Chairman Tony Stewart will meet with QC Jim Sturman on Wednesday afternoon to discuss the possibility of an appeal, with the deadline to lodge it looming on Friday.

Stewart said: “I have got a meeting this afternoon with the QC and we will have that discussion and we will announce it tomorrow with the decision we make.”
