Stewart disappointed by struggling Millers

The Millers started the season intent on winning the League Two title but are five points adrift of the play-off zone with 20 games to go.

Stewart, who appointed Scott at the end of the last season, is desperate to secure League One football before his club moves to a new stadium in the summer.

Speaking ahead of today’s trip to lowly Dagenham and Redbridge, Stewart said: “It’s not a panic situation but we do need to see results for the hard work soon. I’m a realist. We are not fulfilling our ambitions and that’s a disappointment, not just to the manager, but to the board of directors as well.”

The Millers have picked up three points from their last four games and defeat today, against the club next to bottom of the league, would only turn up the heat.

Scott’s options have been boosted by the loan capture of winger Kieron Cadogan from Crystal Palace while goalkeeper Rhys Taylor extended his loan deal from Chelsea until the end of the season.

The Millers manager admits he is ‘hurting’ but vows to fight on.

“As a manager, no-one is fire-proof,” Scott said. “It’s a fickle business and everyone wants results. I’m hurting, especially after Saturday (when the Millers lost at home to Port Vale). I want to be a success here and the only way of doing that is to win football matches. I got a little bit brave at the beginning of the season – making claims about where we can be – but I don’t apologise for that because that is my aim for the club. Maybe the short time I was in last season wasn’t enough to look at the inadequacies we had as a club?”

Marcus Marshall has joined Macclesfield on a one-month loan.
